Central Bank of India is a major public sector bank and one of the oldest commercial banks in India. Founded in the year 1911 to cater to the banking needs of the Indian public, it was the first commercial bank to be wholly-owned and managed by Indians. The bank was nationalised by the Government of India in the year 1969. Presently, the Government of India holds majority stakes in the bank. Despite the name, Central Bank of India is not India’s central bank.
